Title:
Armchair and sofas firmness and durability testing
Research subject and fields:
Abstract:
Armchairs and sofas are most common upholstered furniture. They are constructed in such a way that when used and under the weight of human body they give way to enable comfortable sitting. During their usage they have to retain these properties permanently and when relieved of the weight all the parts have to return to their original position leaving neither folds on the cloth nor any other visible changes. The methods for firmness and durability testing are considered as suggested by Yugoslav standards (JUS) and according to the Swedish standard. The results of some armchairs testing according to the Swedish standard are analysed. An additional evaluation of some characteristics is proposed and drawbacks of the existing standard evaluation are also given.
