Use of glued prestressed wooden material in civil engineering structures

The subject of this survey is glued prestressed wood, i. e. laminated prestressed wood, with data on the development of the use and manufacture of loadbearing structures from the mentioned material. As an example (for the purpose of a clearer treatment of the whole problem) is presented from the engineering viewpoint the use of glued prestressed wooden material in construction of wooden beams supporting the roofing of Exhibition Hall No. 5 in Klagenfurt, which is one of the first structures of this kind in the world.
