Title:
Centering of logs before peeling
Research subject and fields:
Abstract:
The roundwood for peeling into veneers is a very expensive raw material with a relatively great amount of industrial waste in the process. Therefore, each increase in the yield of roundwood during the processing would result in a greater amount of produced veneer as well as in a greater financial effect.
One of the saving places is the accurate centering of logs before introducing them to the lathe. First, the problem was theoretically analyzed, and after that, some previous as well as the up-to-date modern solutions were described. These are the centerings on three or four points, which permit, also with irregular logs, a maximum yield of peeling material.
