Title:
Measurement and control of labour productivity in sawmills
Research subject and fields:
Abstract:
The article calls attention to the necessity and usefulness of organized measurement and control of productivity of labour in sawmills. ln order that the spent hours per unit of sawn products would be real and comparable indicator of productivity among the sawmills with different method of sawing, assortment, species of wood and percentage of utilization, it is necessary that production of each individual mill is brought to a uniform indicator - quantity of conditional productivity units. For this purpose The Wood Institute, Zagreb, on the basis of series of examinations and a trial sawing in the sawmills in Croatia, established the quantities and relations of spent hours for the main groups of sawn products and species of wood, which afterwards served for conversion into conditional productivity units of actual production of each individual mill. The practical application of established relations has been applied for 1978, separately for a group of sawmills with standard production of sawn timber, and separately for a group of sawmills with the 2-phase method of conversion and production of dimension stock. Comparisons clearly direct attention to falling behind of some sawmills and call for adequate actions for increase of productivity of labour.
