Strain measurement on band saws

The amount of strain applied to the saw blades of a band saw is regularly controlled by the sawier during operation, but in an indirect manner e. i. by inspecting the number of weights pulling upon the saw blade. However, in some situations, direct control independent of the band saw itself is required to determine the strain on the band saw blade. This additional control should be quick, routine and practicable by plant personnel using available instruments. This article presents such a method of control with an analysis of relability of its results.
