Title:
Water soluble polysaccharides of bleached kraft (pine) pulp - Part 2. Degree of polymerization and adsorption
Research subject and fields:
Abstract:
Three different water soluble polysaccharides extracts from bleached kraft softwood pine pulp (Sodium hydroxide, Medway and Valley extracts) have been studied. Investigations have shown that Medway and Valley extracts have similar degree of polymerization. As a part of this study adsorption from aqueous ,solution has been investigated in order to clarify whether water-soluble polysaccharides are readsorbed by the fibers and to examine the rate and extent of adsorption. Experiments have shown, that the adsorption uptake, in the case of sodium hydroxide extract, is twice that of the Medway and Valley extracts.
