Development of the Institute for wood - Technical center for wood in Zagreb and its influence on technology and application of wood

The Institute for wood - Zagreb, was founded in 1949 under the following name: »Institute for wood and industrial researches« in the field of logging, mechanical engineering, mechanical and chemical wood processing and publications. In 1960 each activity spread out into a number of various branches and in 1963 the Institute changed the name and became the Institute for wood consisting of 7 sections. The same year the Institute became an autonomy enterprise, out of the Ministry of wood industry, and the founders of the Institute were the Forestry Faculty in Zagreb and 10 largest wood-industry companies in the SR of Croatia. In 1987 the Institute transformed into TechnicaI Centre for Wood - Zagreb (TCD) keeping till now the same field of activity, position and role. In that period the Technical Centre for wood, apart from control, planning, consulting and other services for Yugoslav wood industry, took an active part in scientific and research programs on behalf of the customers and of Community for science in the SR of Croatia. The year 1990 stands for the year of large changes in the Technical Centre for wood and in economy as a whole. The Technical Centre for wood has been adapting its organization and activity to the present and future needs of wood industry and to its field of specialization. The Centre has expanded and completed its activity - the property relations have changed, personnel and laboratory capacities have improved, technology of informatics has been introduced and the solutions to create a powerful institute with powerful data basis have been searching on the basis of literature, researches and gathered information which will contribute to the promotion of the publishing activity. Strengthening the engineering activity in the field of wood industry, the scientific and research work will be developed too, strengthening thus the link with domestic and foreign science institutions and enabling the entrance into modern macro-economy world processes.
