Title:
Residue in wood processing of Zagreb County
Research subject and fields:
Abstract:
This work brings out the results of the analysis of the management of wood residue in wood processing plants of Zagreb County. Analyses of the logs processing realised throughout the years 1996, 1997 and 1998 show a rise in wood processing. In accordance with this rise in logs processing, what became noticeable was an increase in the amount of wood residue. The conducted research only confirmed the previous knowledge of considerable quantities of wood residue present in the area of Zagreb County, which means that in the year 2000 some 69.570 tons of wood residue might be expected, which is 23.3% more than in 1998. A number of companies use this wood residue in their boiler-rooms, for heating and wood drying, while other companies use gas as an energy source. A part of the wood residue is being briquetted in only one company, whilst palleting and other wood processing techniques are not used at all. A part of wood residue is either being sold or given away to population for fuel, litter and similar purposes, and a part is being distributed to workers. In ihe year 1998, the total amount of wood residue after all the needs had been met amounted to 31.175 tons. What must be said as well is the fact that wood residue and cordwood from the Zagreb County area, which emerge as the consequence of regular forest activities, make an additional energy source, utilisation of which might have multiple positive effects.
