Title:
Redwood of beech (Fagus Silvatica L.) - the advantage in rational production and use
Research subject and fields:
Abstract:
This paper presents timber with false heartwood, as a defect of beech wood, occurring in the stage of discoloration, and however with unchanged mechanical properties, which can be used as row material in the production of boards, veneer, furniture, floor, wall and ceiling panels and parts of stairs. The share of high-quality timber shows a considerably decreasing trend on the global market. The content of red heartwood in beech logs is pretty high and hence the said raw material should be used so as to increase the utilisation. The designers use such deficient wood worldwide to design and produce unique furniture and interior equipment. It would be wise and useful to follow this example because of the amount of such beech wood in Croatia.
