Title:

Modern production and business management in wood processing and furniture manufacture

Research subject and fields:
Abstract:

The development of modern technologies with high-tech automated equipment, such as numerically controlled machines, processing centres, or flexible technological lines, with already realised solutions of automated factories, has contributed to increased significance of the production management function. Considering that one part of the present exclusively production functions (issuing work orders; measurement checking and choice of initial parameters; introduction and choice of main and subordinate operations; processing regime, etc.) is being transferred and solved in the function of production and business management, the significance of production management and its impact upon the effectiveness of wood processing and furniture manufacturing firms is on constant increase. Thus, a new approach to the production and business management in wood processing will be initiated by applying the following: system approach; system decision support; expert systems; heuristics; neural networks; logistic programming; modelling for learning; simulation; theory of chaos, and information systems
supported by software packages for efficiency increase of individual functions of computer-aided integrated production. The applicable common nominator is artificial intelligence. Various concepts have a common feature: based on the capability of understanding, making conclusions, learning, application of knowledge and information technologies, observation and recognition of events and objects, different concepts can be used as intelligent support to the processes of decision making and management. These concepts are interactive, forming a general logistic concept, which can adopt different forms in wood processing and furniture manufacture. It must be capable of giving reasonable answers, and solving issues in accordance with the degree of knowledge we have supplied it. Such advisory property of the presented concepts is a firm support in a perplexed environment.
